01

What Are Cookies

Cookies are small text files that are placed on your device — computer, tablet, or smartphone — when you visit a website. They are widely used to make websites work more efficiently, to remember your preferences, and to provide information to the website owner about how visitors use the site.

Cookies cannot run programmes or deliver viruses to your computer. They are uniquely assigned to your browser and can only be read by the web server on the domain that issued the cookie to you.

Types of cookies by storage duration

  • Session cookies — temporary cookies that exist only for the duration of your browsing session. They are automatically deleted when you close your browser.
  • Persistent cookies — cookies that remain on your device for a set period or until you manually delete them. They allow the website to remember your preferences and behaviour across multiple visits.

Types of cookies by origin

  • First-party cookies — set directly by Canal Club Copenhagen when you visit our website.
  • Third-party cookies — set by external services or partners (such as Google or Meta) whose content or functionality is embedded in or integrated with our website.
02

Who We Are (Data Controller)

Canal Club Copenhagen is the data controller for cookies set directly by our website. For cookies set by third-party providers, the relevant third party acts as an independent data controller under their own privacy and cookie policies.

03

Categories of Cookies We Use

We group the cookies on our website into four categories, as defined below. Only strictly necessary cookies are active by default. All other categories require your prior, informed, and freely given consent before they are set.

Strictly Necessary

Always active

These cookies are essential for our website to function correctly. They enable core features such as page navigation, secure form submission, and session management. The website cannot operate properly without them. They do not collect personal information for marketing purposes and do not require consent under applicable law.

Performance & Analytics

Consent required

These cookies collect anonymous information about how visitors use our website — such as which pages are visited most often, how long visitors spend on each page, and whether any error messages are received. This helps us improve our website and your experience. All data collected is aggregated and non-identifiable. We use Google Analytics for this purpose.

Functional

Consent required

These cookies allow our website to remember choices you have made — such as your language preference — and to provide enhanced, more personalised features. They may also be used to provide services you have requested, such as a live chat widget. Without these cookies, some website features may not function as intended.

Marketing & Advertising

Consent required

These cookies are used to track your browsing activity across websites and to deliver advertisements that are relevant to your interests. They are set by our advertising partners — including Meta (Facebook/Instagram) and Google — and help us measure the effectiveness of our marketing campaigns. They remember that you have visited our website and this information may be shared with other organisations.

05

Third-Party Cookies & Embeds

Our website may include content, functionality, or integrations from third-party providers. When you interact with or load this embedded content, those third parties may place their own cookies on your device, independently of Canal Club Copenhagen.

Google Analytics

We use Google Analytics (operated by Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland) to collect aggregated, anonymised information about how visitors use our website. Google Analytics sets several cookies (including _ga, _gid, and _gat) only with your consent. We have configured Google Analytics with IP anonymisation enabled, meaning your full IP address is never stored. Data collected through Google Analytics may be transferred to Google servers in the United States under the EU–US Data Privacy Framework.

You can opt out of Google Analytics tracking across all websites by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

Meta Pixel (Facebook / Instagram)

Where you have consented to marketing cookies, our website loads the Meta Pixel (operated by Meta Platforms Ireland Limited, 4 Grand Canal Square, Dublin 2, Ireland). This allows us to measure the effectiveness of our advertising on Facebook and Instagram and to show relevant ads to people who have previously visited our website. Data collected may be transferred to Meta servers in the United States. You can manage your ad preferences through your Facebook and Instagram account settings.

Google Ads & DoubleClick

Where you have consented to marketing cookies, Google Ads conversion tracking cookies may be set to help us understand whether users who click our Google Ads go on to make a booking. These cookies do not contain personally identifiable information and are subject to Google's privacy policy. You can opt out of personalised Google advertising through Google's Ad Settings.

Canal Club Copenhagen does not control the data collected by third-party cookies and is not responsible for the privacy practices of those third parties. We encourage you to review the relevant third-party privacy and cookie policies directly.

06

Your Cookie Choices

You have full control over which non-essential cookies are active on our website. There are several ways to manage your preferences:

Cookie consent banner

When you first visit our website, you will be presented with a cookie consent banner that allows you to accept all cookies, reject all non-essential cookies, or manage your preferences by category. You can revisit and change your choices at any time by clicking the "Cookie Settings" link in the website footer.

Withdrawing consent

You may withdraw your cookie consent at any time. Withdrawing consent will prevent new non-essential cookies from being set, but will not automatically delete cookies that have already been placed on your device. To remove existing cookies, you must clear your browser cookies manually (see Section 07 — Browser Controls).

Opt-out tools provided by third parties

  • Google Analytics — install the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on (available at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout)
  • Google Ads — manage preferences at adssettings.google.com
  • Meta (Facebook/Instagram) — adjust ad preferences in your Facebook or Instagram account settings under "Ad Preferences"
  • Industry opt-out tools — visit youronlinechoices.com (EU) or optout.aboutads.info (US) to manage preferences across multiple advertising networks simultaneously
07

Browser Controls

All modern browsers give you the ability to control cookies through their settings. You can configure your browser to accept all cookies, reject all cookies, delete existing cookies, or notify you when a cookie is being set so that you can decide whether to accept it. The process for managing cookies varies by browser:

  • Google Chrome — Settings → Privacy and security → Cookies and other site data
  • Mozilla Firefox — Options → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data
  • Apple Safari — Preferences → Privacy → Manage Website Data
  • Microsoft Edge — Settings → Cookies and site permissions → Cookies and site data
  • Opera — Settings → Advanced → Privacy & security → Site Settings → Cookies

Please be aware that blocking all cookies — including strictly necessary ones — may significantly impair the functionality of our website and prevent some features from working correctly. Restricting only third-party cookies is generally sufficient to limit tracking while maintaining normal website functionality.

If you use multiple devices or browsers, you will need to manage your cookie settings separately on each one, as cookie preferences are stored locally on each device and browser.

09

Updates to This Cookie Policy

We review and update this Cookie Policy periodically to reflect changes in the cookies we use, changes in applicable law, or changes in our business practices. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page indicates when the policy was most recently revised.

Where we introduce new non-essential cookie categories or materially change how we use existing cookies, we will display an updated consent notice and request your consent afresh.

We encourage you to review this Cookie Policy from time to time to stay informed about how we use cookies. Your continued use of our website after any changes to this policy constitutes acknowledgement of the updated version.
